Amherst Teeth in A Day
Today it’s possible to replace all of your missing teeth with a full set of permanent teeth that you never need to remove. It’s a fixed bridge solution that stays in place 24 hours a day that functions more securely than dentures and looks like natural teeth. With a new process of placing dental implants, people who are missing all of their teeth can receive a full arch bridge on as few as four implants – all in one day. There is also a two-day option if you are looking to replace your teeth immediately after tooth extractions.
What Are All-on-Four Non-Removable Dentures?
A technique called All-on-4™ was developed over 10 years ago by a dentist in Portugal. There are several other trademarked variations: Teeth-in-an-Hour, Teeth Now, and Teeth Today. At New Hampshire Center for Comprehensive Dentistry we use the Biomet 3i system called Diem®2.
Traditionally, implants are inserted into the jaw at a vertical angle and spaced at intervals around the jawbone to support a fixed bridge or denture. Then after implant surgery there’s a 3-6 month healing period before the implant denture can be placed. With All-on-Four, implants are strategically placed at an angle where the bone is most dense to create a strong and stable platform for the fixed bridge. In the past it took 6-10 implants to support a fixed bridge. With All-on-Four, typically four implants are used in the lower jaw and six implants for the upper, many times without the need for bone grafting.
Who is a Candidate for All-on-Four?
Although All-on-Four is most commonly used with older patients, it can be used on younger patients as well. The technique should be considered even for patients who have some loss of bone density in their jawbone. The implants will actually help prevent further bone loss from occurring in the future.
Candidates are:
Healthy and non-diabetic
Clear of infection in the implant areas
Found to have sufficient bone and gum tissue in the surgical areas
Able to follow post-operative instructions to protect the implants as they heal
